Hydrotherapy is an important element in the rehabilitation of injury in dogs as well as building core muscle stability & endurance.
The water offers a stable, buoyant environment helping reduce the body weight going through the joints. Team this with the resistance properties of moving through water and we achieve muscle strengthening in a controlled, non-concussive and therapeutic manner.

FAQs
- Hydrotherapy may be included in your pet’s rehabilitation programme after their initial assessment if it is appropriate.
- We will fit your dog with a harness for extra support and control when in the treadmill.
- One of our qualified team will then introduce your dog to the treadmill and conduct the session. We kindly ask the owner or handler to remain in the session and help with reassurance and encouragement during the session.
- We will then ensure your dog safely exits the treadmill and is towel dried before finishing.
- Dog’s should arrive for their appointment clean, dry and on lead.
- Allow your pet the opportunity to go to the toilet before they enter the clinic.
- If your pet accidentally goes to the toilet in the treadmill and the following patient sessions need to be cancelled, a charge of £50 will be payable.
- A competent owner/handler should be on hand to assist with the session – this is to offer encouragement & reassurance.
- Dog’s should not be actively exercised up to 2 hours before or after an appointment.
- Dog’s should not be fed up to 2 hours before or after an appointment. If your dog has any specific dietary requirements or a set feeding timescale, please let us know at time of booking so this can be accommodated.
- Please bring any treats or toys that your dog is motivated towards or focuses on as this may be beneficial during the session.
- Many pet insurance providers now offer cover towards hydrotherapy treatment.
- Each insurance company is different and so it is important to check your own individual policy.
- Hydrotherapy treatment can often be referred to as ‘alternative’ or ‘complimentary’ treatment within insurance policy wording.
- Insurance cover for hydrotherapy treatment will require veterinary referral.
- Whilst we do not offer direct claims from insurance companies, our team can offer to assist with insurance claim processing. We charge an admin fee to help with insurance claim processing.
- The regularity of sessions varies depending on each individual patient’s needs.
- We often start with a block of between 2-4 weekly sessions followed by a physiotherapy appointment to review progress and assess the rehabilitation programme.
- With dogs attending for fitness & conditioing, often these sessions are weekly initially and spaced out to an appropriate gap which ensures the benefits are being maintained.
- In short, yes. JF – Vet Physio pride’s itself in working in close collaboration with referring vet practices and therefore whether your physiotherapy treatment is for competition, maintenance or remedial care, veterinary consent is required.
- We ask that you contact us as soon as possible if you find yourself in need of changing or cancelling and appointment. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice will be charged for the appointment in full. The only exception to this will be at the discretion of JF – Vet Physio.
- All hydrotherapy appointments are on a pay-as-you-go basis and are paid at the time of the appointment either by cash, card or BACS.
